Malia Manuel won the Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro in 2013.
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro will run at Oceanside Pier from August 8 - 10, 2014 and host 11 of the elite 17 ASP Women's World Championship Tour (WCT) competitors.
The Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro will see 104 aspiring Dream Tour hopefuls compete in the largest women's Qualification Series (QS) event in history. The Oceanside-based event marks a crucial kickoff in determining next year's elite, with contests immediately following in France and Portugal.
Malia Manuel (HAW), 20, current ASP Women's World No. 5, is returning to the Supergirl Pro to defend her title at an event that has played a vital role in springboarding her success as a professional.
“I'm always thrilled to surf Oceanside again for the event,†Manuel said. “I love competing in the Supergirl because of its fantastic support in women's surfing. It's such a nice atmosphere to be around and I love the crowds that visit every year. It's one of the biggest events of my year.
“It's been a fun year and I love competing,†continued Manuel. “I don't think about taking any different approach whether it's a CT or QS. I surf all heats without prioritizing the type of event it is. I'm always learning, evolving, and looking forward to competing in my sixth Supergirl event!â€
Additional ASP Top 17 talent include Pauline Ado (FRA), 23, Alana Blanchard (HAW), 24, Coco Ho (HAW), 23, rookies Nikki Van Dijk (AUS), 19, Johanne Defay (FRA), 20, and Alessa Quizon (HAW), 19, two-time event runner-up Paige Hareb (NZL), 24, current QS No. 1 Silvana Lima (BRA), 30, and past event winner Sage Erickson (USA), 23, among other top names.
